5/6 Selfies

What we are doing in art is we are drawing self portraits of ourselves. We have to include a back ground ourselves and colour. On my portrait I’ve chosen a back ground that has a basket ball ring a football goals. I learnt that some parts of shading are lighter than other parts. The medium in the art work was paint. The paint was very detailed but it wasn’t a exact replica of the man himself.

By Logan C (Reporter)

Today I was the art focus student and had to show the class an artwork. I showed the class a painting of a banker smoking a cigar it was really fun and cool. later I worked on my selfie and learnt how to mix and shade different shades of colours I also learnt how to look at something and draw the exact same thing on a sheet of paper art was really fun

what are we doing in art today we are working on our selfies today again we are getting there and they are looking really good. We where learning how to shade we tried to shade on the face. There are many different types of faces so there was many different places to shade there was also different types of backgrounds such as in holly wood and and on farms and in town up the street and even some simple backgrounds I am loving art in 2016 I cant wait for more.

There many people concentrating and working really hard keep up the good work 5/6c

Today I presented my cousin’s artwork and I showed my class her gemstone characters for her latest book. I chose this because I thought they looked really interesting and colourful. They were made up me, my friends and some fused together. I think getting the eyes to look realistic will be the hardest part of my selfie.

Gretta (Focus Student)

In Art we are doing Selfies! We are drawing our faces. We are starting with rough drafts and we’ll put our face on the iPhone. We will write our goals on the other iPhone. When we have finished a draft we get feedback on how to make it better.

Leo (Reporter)

Photographer – Milly

In art we are working on selfie drawings! Of yourself you have to memorise how you look and draw it onto a paper phones. We will see how close we get to getting it to look just like us in the past.  Bailey brought a drawing image of a butterfly and a wolf to share as the focus student. J.W (Reporter)

I feel excited to be able to draw my portrait and learn new skills to be able to sketch better. I’ve shaded and started on the good copy of my self portrait. I think I’m getting the shapes right and I’m staying on task. I shared my wolf and butterfly drawings. I chose them because I liked the techniques I used on them. Bailey (Focus Student)

Grade 3/4 Weekly Wrap

In Art we are drawing ourselves on phones and practising on the back of them. When we have finished drawing them we will colour them and put them on display. I’m doing myself in a dress that’s a grey colour and I’m drawing myself with silver sandals. I also have been asking for feedback from people about what I look like and what I can do to make my drawing look better. I asked Rhiarna for feedback when we started. Regan (Reporter)

Photographer – Max

In Art we are working on our self portraits. We have asked for feedback and practised drawing our pictures first. It’s sometimes hard because some bits take a long time to do. My face looks good because I took my time and made it neat. The class is working well to finish their selfies. Tyler (Reporter)

I have been doing a good job drawing me, holding Ariel my cat. I did a really good job of the cats ears. The hardest part has been trying to draw Ariel’s arms and paws. I’m lying on my bed in my selfie. I have learnt how to draw heads a bit better. I started by drawing really slow to get the shape right. Hayley (Focus Student)

Photographer – Rowdy

in Art, were going well on our selfie work and many people are starting to colour their portrait we are doing well on getting the shape right. Its hard to do the hands holding the phone.

I am doing well on my one getting the shape of the face and the shading on it. The hand is not the best because it could be improved. Joe (Reporter)

I shared a picture of a room that was half colourful graffiti and half plain white. I chose it because it I really liked all the colours and I thought it was a really good artwork. I’ve learnt how to improve my drawing by doing a rough copy first and then doing my good copy. I am really happy with my face because normally I don’t get the shape right but on this one it looks good. Rhiarna (Focus Student)

Grade 1/2 Weekly Round Up

Art is fun because we get to paint and draw fun stuff. We are making self portraits. We are up to painting. A good painter tries to be neat and is sensible. I’m painting my face in a skin colour. I am really happy with my drawing of my self portrait. Fletcher (Reporter)

I have been learning to do self portraits. I learnt that we can sometimes draw just our face and not our full body. When we have finished painting we will do a background with coloured squares. I am really happy about the size of my face. I didn’t do it too big. I’m making sure that my painting goes only on my portrait. The hardest thing to do is to paint it because when you paint it sometimes goes over the lines where you don’t want it to go. Rishi (Focus Student)

Photographer – Sarah

Today we glued little squares to a white piece of paper to make a background. We finished painting our self portraits. I added a bit more yellow to my painting. It’s a fun thing to do. Rhiannon (Reporter)

I have learnt that I need to take my time when painting so that I can get better at it.  If you take your time it looks better because it’s neat and your paint brush is going in the one line. I am really happy that I have done my face round. The hardest thing to do was to paint my eyes. I’m enjoying Art a lot. Aleara (Focus Student)

Photographer – William

We are painting and drawing self portraits and we’re sticking on pieces of coloured paper to make our background. We talked about being a good artist. I said a good artist paints neatly. I tried to paint neatly. I’m really happy with my self portrait. Levi DH (Reporter)

I feel happy that I am sticking things on neatly. I have improved my drawing because I got feedbackand added more things to my self portrait. William gave me feedback that I could make my head bigger so I did. I have been trying to help other people and do the right thing and listen to other people’s feedback. Ethan (Focus Student)

 Photographer – Levi W

There’s lots of fun stuff happening in Art at the moment. We have been painting, drawing, doing some listening. Our grade are working really well on their art. We are trying to get 6 smiley faces on the ArtSmart board. I have finished my work so I am helping Riley finish his.  Lucas (Reporter)

I’ve learnt how to make a self portrait. A self portrait is where you make a picture of yourself. We are doing a colourful background. We used squares of paper. I’m really proud of how I stayed in the lines when I was painting my self portrait. I was trying hard to stay in the lines and not go out of the lines. Jakobi (Focus Student)

Photographer – Wyatt

1/2 weekly art sessions

We were doing our portraits and we were painting what we looked like. We were trying to make the paint stay in the lines and be good artists. Jakobi (Reporter)

Today I found it was hard to stay in the lines when I was painting. I was proud that I nearly finished painting my portrait. I think I did a good job on the eyes and ears, nose and shoulders because I think they look nearly right.

Tayla (Focus)

In Art we are working on drawing and painting our faces. Today we drew our faces. We learnt how to not mix colours up when we are painting. A good painter paints something they want to paint. Miharo (Reporter)

I learnt to never mix colours because it makes different colours when you don’t want different colours. I’m proud of how I painted today. I tried to make it neat and not splash it around. Indi (Focus Student)

Photographer – Toby

Today in Art we drew our self and painted it. We talked about being a good artist. A good artist tries to stay in the lines, never gives up and does lots of paintings. It was a bit tricky painting our self portraits but it was fun. Delta (Reporter)

Today I improved on my drawing. I normally don’t draw big and today I did my face big. I’m proud of how neat I did my portrait. The best thing I did was painting and drawing my hair and eyes. Lilly (Focus Student)

We drew our self portraits and now we are painting them. We are all enjoying it. It’s very fun. When we drew our self portraits we had to do more than one draft. We try to paint the same way (in the same direction) and stay inside the lines. William (Reporter)

It was a little bit tricky drawing the faces, especially the head and shoulder but I have got used to doing it. I have done a really good job on my face because I carefully painted white on the mouth. Asha (Focus Student)

Photographer – Tequijuan

5/6 ‘selfies’

Today we are drawing a picture of ourselves. It is really fun and is a great idea because we can give each other feedback about our pictures so we can make it better. We can also learn how to draw things that are hard to draw. This is really fun and I love drawing, so it is a great idea. Tori R (Reporter)

I think that I improved your self portrait from my first draft to my sixth draft. I improved on the size, the arms and not having much detail in the first one. I changed just 2 lines that were arms to look like proper arms. My face improved so I had more than 2 dots for eyes which I changed into more of an oval shape.  I’m going to start my good copy selfie next week. Thomas (Focus Student)

Photographer – Marcus

we are are drawing selfies we can make them look however we want as long as it has us in it we can chose our background. We give each other feedback to improve the picture we are allowed to do as many drafts as we want when we have finished we are going to put them in the foyer and people have to guess which person is in the picture.

Jess.H .(Reporter)

I don’t think I am the best at Art but I have improved on drawing my own head. I think I have got the shape better now. I’m happy with how I am trying to focus in Art and not getting distracted. I learnt that it’s not easy to choose a painting to share with the class. The one o chose no-one liked because it was violent and wasn’t a picture they would like to put on their wall. It was called ‘The Blinding of Sampson’ by Rembrandt. It was detailed but it wasn’t very colourful and I would have liked something with trees and water too. Tyson ( Focus Student)

Photographer – Tamika

3/4 week 4 antics

In Art we are doing ‘Selfies’ but we have to draw them. It could be a head or with a friend. Then we have to draw our selfie onto the phone on paper and see if people can guess our faces. We are trying to make them look like the real thing. At first it is very challenging because you have to take a photo of yourself in your head and see if you can draw it. Nobody will get it perfect but we want to try the best we can. I bet when we have finished them they are going to look outstanding! McKenzie (Reporter)

Today I have been doing my ‘selfie of myself. I also shared my art of 2 Optical Illusions. The 2 Optical Illusions one of them was one that started to grow when you stared at it and the other one when you stared at it looked like it had black dots and they kept flashing at you. The hardest part today was trying to get the face the right shape. I’m very proud of how I practised on my face and how I have seen it improve.  Jono (Focus Student)

Photographer – Scarlett

We are drawing on our selfies. We are colouring in the phone cases and our selfies. I’m still drawing my selfie and I finished my rough copy on the back of my sheet. We have a focus student every week. This week’s was Bella and she picked an artwork of 2 cats listening to music together. We had a talk about what we thought they were listening to. I thought that they might be listening to ‘My Dogs Got Fleas’. Other people thought AC/DC, the sound of the sea, dubhstep, or Lovecats. After we finish our selfies we will be moving onto doing some painting. Wilbur (Reporter)

Hi my name is Bella and today I was the focus student. I showed a cat picture that an artist drew. It was really hard to explain. The cats were imagining that they were listening to music on headphones. In the background it was like a big party going on. I liked it because they showed you 2 different coloured cats My whole class was thinking of different music that they were listening to. Also I have been drawing my selfie. It was really hard to start off drawing but I got the hang of it. Making the eyes the right size was really tricky. I have put a lot of effort into drawing my top. Bella (focus Student)

Photographer – Tamsyn

We are working on self portraits. We are going to do a selfie display stick them up and see if anyone can guess who is who. We are working on drawing our pictures as close to ourselves as we can make them.  Chelsea (Reporter)

I liked presenting my graffiti art. It has nice colours and kind of glowed. It also had lots of different colours that looked good. I felt like I did a good job presenting the graffiti art to the class and I think the audience listened well. I learnt that the graffiti I showed is sometimes bad and you can get fined if you do it without permission. Sometimes it looks great though. I improved drawing my hair and putting more on my head in my self portrait. I want to improve my ears as they need to be a bit bigger. I think I worked well today and didn’t talk as much as I have in other lessons. Jim (Focus Student)

Year 5/6 Art – a week in reflection

In Art 5/6C are drawing selfies. We have to make our drawing realistic and make it look as good as possible! We are also writing our goals into text messages. My goal is to try and draw noses so they look real and good. I think we are going really well and I am enjoying this activity Ella F (Reporter)

 Photographer – Caleb

Today I learnt about pointillism because I chose a painting to share that used it. I picked ‘The Circus’ by Georges Seurat. I chose it because it had a horse and looked textured. I learnt that I am not very good at drawing eyes on people or dogs and I like drawing myself. My selfie is a drawing of me and my dog at my house.

Aria (Focus Student)

today in art we are drawing self portraits. We drew them on the back of our paper first. I am drawing myself and my friend with a rolercoaster in the back round. I learnt how to draw my hair so it looks realistic. We’re going to put our selfies on display and see if people can work out who everyone is in the class. Bella (Reporter)

I was drafting some pictures and sketching. Then I had to scale it down so that is could all fit in the picture. I chose an artwork by Renoir and I chose it because it looked like a billabong or somewhere you might find in Australia. Flynn (Focus Student)

Photographer – Matthew

Today we are drawing in a pitcher I phone we are drawing our selfies, or people with us, or things with us. Miss Sharp gave us the idea of doing this because Xavier showed us a picture and we are trying to show what people look like when they use a iPhone and take a photo of ourselves.  We are making a draft first. by Crystal (Reporter)

My learning today has been good. I’ve learnt that you can see what people are thinking in their artworks and make up stories. I am drawing my selfie. The hardest part is getting the outline shapes and where the arm goes out right on my drawing. I am proud of how well I am listening and doing what I need to. I felt good being the focus student because I like to draw and I got to today. Xavier (Focus Student)

Week 3 Art in years 3/4

I shared an art book from How to Train Your Dragon. My favourite picture is of the Red Death. I like it because it is the biggest dragon. It has lots of red spikes, teeth and looks like it is smooth and textured in places. I think it was done as a painting. I did a good job working on my selfie. The hardest part was getting the shape of the face right. Once I had done that it was good because I am good at art and it was easier. Kaine – focus student

I worked well on my selfie today. I think that I did a good job of the hair. It is a bit tricky but I am working well. The class enjoys drawing their selfies. Lilly (reporter)

Bella – Photographer

In Art we have been doing a picture of ourselves. Jaime brought in a picture to share. She had made it herself. She brought a self portrait. I’ve been working on how to draw ourselves. The hardest part is trying to draw your whole body. Emmett (Reporter)

I really like being a focus student. I shared an artwork I had drawn of a person. I really liked the techniques that I used to do it. Everybody said that they liked it. I’m doing a ‘take a selfie’ portrait now. When we are finished we will have to guess who it was that drew it. I made a few mistakes but rubbed them out and now I am happy with it. I just need to draw another eye and fix up my lips to finish. I feel really good sitting up the front on a chair as the focus student. Jaime (Focus Student)

Photographer – Jed

We are learning to take selfies of ourselves. We are drawing them. It can be either landscape or portrait. When we draw ourselves we have to include all the details like glasses if you wear them, eyes and ears. If you’re a girl you might draw earrings or a necklace. We want to make our pictures look real. I think I will do a good draft for my selfie. Xavier (Reporter)

I have been going well with my artwork and I am almost finishing everything in one art lesson. I remembered to bring to bring my artwork to share. I brought in drawings of animals and people mixed together that my brother and I had done. I also brought in an extra things to show such as pencils, rubbers, crayons, sharpeners and paint in my art box. I am trying to get my nose and hair to look much better than in my first draft. I need to sharpen my pencil more so I can draw finer and lighter lines. Everytime I do it I’m afraid the pencil will snap. The best bit about being a focus student is sitting up on a chair, sharing artworks and you feel proud of yourself for sharing what you can do. Izaiyah (Focus Student)

1/2 week 3 Art Wrap

In Art we are learning about drawing self portraits. We had to draw our whole face and our shoulders. We get feedback when we have finished our drafts from our classmates. Then we go back and fix up the parts that our classmates have said we could improve. We get a new piece of paper and do our next draft on that. I have improved the way I did my hair. Stella (Reporter)

I worked on my self portrait. I did 3 drafts. I got feedback from Mackenzie and Charlee they helped give me ideas to improve my drawing. Kassie (focus student)

Photographer – Kobe

We’re doing a self portrait. A self portrait is where you draw a picture of yourself. Once we’ve done our first draft we keep going until it’s perfect. Then we will get to paint it. We know it looks good when it looks like you. We get feedback from the class and when they say that looks good it’s finished. We are kind, specific and helpful and not mean when we give feedback. I think that the whole class is doing a great job on their self portraits. Miah (Reporter)

Photographer – Miley

I got feedback to make my eyes bigger and not to make swirls in my eyes. So I did another draft. I made my eyes and hair look normal and I added teeth. I’m proud of how I have structured my head because it was hard to do. Kyle (focus student)

In Art we are doing self portraits to do self portraits. we watched a movie called Auston’s Butterfly. It gave us some facts about giving feedback to help get our faces better. When he started off it wasn’t as good as it could be so he asked his friends for feedback and went back and sis it again. When he got to his last draft using colour it looked amazing. Our self portraits we are doing of our head and shoulders and we get feedback too. It is fun. Lily T (Reporter)

I have learnt to do self portraits drawing myself. We did 5 or 6 drafts to make our drawings look good and not messy. The hardest part was drawing the head and the shoulders. I think I have done a really good job of my hair because I made sure it was drawn long enough because it really is long. Stella – focus student

Photographer – Phoebe

In Art we are working on drawing self portraits. It’s a picture of ourselves. I drew a head and shoulders. We had to make sure our eyes are not fully black. I am proud that to get better I have improved my work. I had one draft that didn’t have earrings so I added them. My picture now looks finished. Inika (Reporter)

I learnt that if I practise I can get better at drawing pictures of myself. The hardest thing to do was trying to get the eyelashes in the same spot, the eyes closer to the nose and getting the glasses to curve down. It was a little tricky to draw around the back to show the elastic. I am really proud of how I did getting the eyes, glasses and eyelashes looking good. Zabina (Focus student)

Welcome Back 2016

Welcome back to 2016 everyone. We have lots of exciting things planned for Art this year. Firstly though a request for all students to have clearly named art smocks ready to go as soon as possible please. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy an old shirt is absolutely perfect. Thanks to everyone that already has theirs ready to go 🙂

Each week there will be a focus student in each class. For those in years 3 – 6 they will need to bring in an artwork of their choice to share on their day. The artwork can be something students have made or an artwork they have found in a book or on the internet. I will be putting up the focus student’s names on the board outside the art room. Well done to Flynn, Kaine, Izaiyah, Aria, Jaime and Xavier who have started us of so well.

We will be continuing with our Art Blog this year with students taking on the role of reporters and photographers to create our posts. These will also be displayed in an Art Journal near the front office. There will be new posts up shortly as I am trialling uploading at the end of the week with a post for each year level. I am very impressed with our grade 1/2 focus students learning statements this week. Well done Kyle, Kassie, Stella and Zabina.

Our first creations this year will be around self portraits and getting to know our new classmates. We will also be setting some goals for what we would like to achieve in the areas of drawing and painting. Years 3 – 6 will be exploring their portraits through the ‘selfie’ creating a fun display. The year 1-2 students will be exploring colour and looking at improving their work through use of feedback and drafts to paint their self portraits.

Prep students will begin to create their very special Prep Art Books. These focus on introducing basic skills and art concepts, such as primary and secondary colours. The Prep Art Books usually take a couple of terms to complete.
