on September 7, 2014

We watched this video to find out more about Henri Rousseau’s artwork Surprised. We have been creating our own artworks that are inspired by this artist. We have watched a couple of different clips to tune in and get ideas. Other video links are bookmarked on the links list further down the page.

We used this project to try and experiment with some different paper collage techniques. The aim was to have at least 5 different skills used on our own artwork. We also looked at depth and detail and achieving an interesting artwork. We started by painting a horizon line (the line where the land and sky meet) and simply doing the sky blue and and the land green. after that we looked at some of Rousseau’s artworks and discussed detail and what they made us think of. We also thought about what we liked and didn’t like in them.

The final part of the artwork was using collage to create our own jungles. Some of the skills we used were tearing, scrunching, fringing, cutting, curling, rolling and fan folding, some people used other techniques too. We had to make a thick and colorful jungle. Some people made animals and birds for in their jungles. Callum even made a teepee out of material.

We enjoyed this activity and learning more about Henri Rousseau
