Here is a copy of the artwork ‘Starry Night’ by Vincent Van Gogh. This is what has inspired our own artworks. Please also check out the link in the bookmarks to another great YouTube clip featuring Don McLeans’ song Starry Night and lots of artworks by Vincent Van Gogh.

Things we have learnt about Van GoghIMG_2835

He died when he was 37

He liked bright colours

He only sold one painting in his life

He moved to Paris

He had a brother called Theo

He was Dutch

He committed suicide

He cut off his ear

He suffered from depression

He was a post Impressionist artist

This week we are doing Van Gogh paintings. We did swirly pictures with food dye. Then we cut and pasted shadows, we learnt they are called silhouettes today. Next we drew with oil pastels, we added extra swirls and a moon and stars. It was very, very colourful.

Impressionists paint what they feel they paint their impression of how things look – Oscar

We have been learning about Vincent Van Gogh. I learnt that he cut off his own ear. I did the Starry Night picture. I used mainly yellow food dye to make the background but also some green, blue and purple. I used green glitter to finish my work off. I have a black house, 2 cars and a person in my artwork.
